Hello Franklin families,
I hope you all made it through the storm okay with minimal damage and that your power has been restored. It is amazing to see so many people in the community come together to help each other with clean up efforts and to assist those in need of shelter, food, water, a hot shower and even just a little time in air conditioning. It certainly puts a lot of things in perspective and on an educational note, it is certainly a great time to discuss the economic impact to local businesses and families. My students saw the law of supply and demand in action first hand after hurricane Harvey when we talked about increased gas prices and I know they have surely been seeing the real life application being with you waiting in line for gas maybe or being rationed to buying only a few cases of water. Although it is hardest on those who need to recover on a large scale, the aftermath of a hurricane also gives small businesses the opportunity to flourish and recover from a slow or seasonal period without a lot of work. I know many of our parents are first responders and line men/women who spent a lot of time away from their families before, during and after the storm so thank you for your service to our community! I look forward to seeing all my students back in school just as soon as we get cleared to return. Please know I am excited to see them and to share all that we have experienced recently. Stay safe and be well, Mrs. Stutesman-Schiff |
